What Does It Mean To Be Part of An Association That Feels Like A Real Community – A Tribe? To Be Part of A Family?
It has now been a month and half since the Professional Speakers Australia – PSA Convention. And what an amazing convention that was. I am still processing all that I learned and took away from it. Kudus to Ian Stephens, CSP, Mell ‘B’ ๐งก Balment and the convention team for putting together such an amazing event, unparalleled by any.
Besides being the closing speaker for Day 1, some of the key moments for me were:
Peter Merrettโs opening keynote for Day 2 about #wonder – not only was it world-class content and he presented in such a compelling engaging way, for me the pivotal moment was when he told a story about an orchestra conductor and then as a gift handed the conductorโs baton onstage to Glenn Capelli, CSP, Sir Winston Churchill Fellow. It was such a humbling moment, and a display of respect and emotions. This was the start of what followed for the next 3 days.
Day 4 of the convention was a special CSP Summit, for all those who attained the degree of CSP (Certified Speaking Professional). Russell Pearson curated an amazing workshop for us, with Miroslav Bardoviฤ, CSP leading us to speak from our inner presence and energy. Then Joel McKerrow took us through a poetry writing workshop where we tapped into our deeper inner pain and hope to produce a greater outflow. It was definitely a cathartic moment for me and others in the room.
And my big takeaway from all of this and the key action that I am taking: to bring out my deeper inner presence and vulnerabilities AND meet the needs of my clients or audience. When I prepare the proposal or talk for a client to meet their needs, I will take a beat to be vulnerable and think how can I bring my inner self to meet their needs. The more specific I get, the more universal I will target them.
And what about you? What is one thing that you have learned recently from a community or tribe that you are part of that has changed your life? Iโd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
